The ShelfPrivacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information Styles Developments (“we”, “us”) collects about you when you buy and use The Shelf, and how it is handled. We follow the Privacy Act 2020 (New Zealand).
The short version
- No account. You do not sign up or log in to use The Shelf.
- No telemetry. The Shelf does not send usage data, analytics or crash reports to us.
- We never receive your photos. Your photos, documents and films, and everything The Shelf works out about them (faces, places, search labels, albums, favourites), stay on your own computer or drive.
- The only personal information we get is the name and email address you give at checkout, plus anything you choose to send us when you email.
1. Buying The Shelf
Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. When you buy, you give Lemon Squeezy your name, email address and payment and billing details. Lemon Squeezy processes the payment and handles tax. We receive your name, email address and order details (such as what you bought, when, the price and your licence key) so we can deliver your licence and support you. We do not receive or store your full card details.
Lemon Squeezy handles your information under its own privacy policy.
2. Using The Shelf
The Shelf runs entirely on your own computer. It runs a small private server that only your computer can use, to show your library in the app. Your library and The Shelf’s data about it are stored in your library folder on your computer or drive.
Face grouping, smart labels and search run on your computer. Place names come from a list built into the app, so photo locations are not sent anywhere to be looked up. Licence keys are checked offline.
Because of this, we have no access to your photos, your library, or how you use the app.
3. When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message. We use it only to reply and help you.
4. This website
This website does not use cookies, analytics or tracking scripts, and loads no third-party resources. When you send a message through our contact form, it goes to Web3Forms, which passes it on to us by email. Our web host may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses and pages requested) for security and reliability. Cloudflare Pages hosts this site.
5. How we use your information
We use your name, email address and order details to:
- send you your download link and licence key, and help you if you lose them;
- answer support requests and process refunds;
- keep records we are required to keep by law.
We do not sell your information, and we do not send marketing email unless you ask to receive it.
6. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with Lemon Squeezy (to process your order), Web3Forms (which passes messages from our contact form to us) and our email provider (Gmail by Google, to receive and answer support messages), or where the law requires it. These providers may store information outside New Zealand. When that happens we rely on them to protect it to a standard comparable to the Privacy Act 2020.
7. How long we keep it
We keep order records for as long as we need them to support your licence and to meet tax and record-keeping obligations (generally seven years in New Zealand). Support emails are kept for up to two years, then deleted.
8. Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Use our contact form. If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another place with its own privacy laws, you may have further rights, such as asking us to delete your information, and we will honour them.
If you are not happy with how we have handled a privacy concern, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in New Zealand.
9. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
